University Lunch Autumn 2014

My lunch (left)is always made by my mother.
In this picture, you can see. 
An omelet, fried green pepper, cooked beans and brown alga. On the right hand side is  vegetable salad while on the left you see rice and a pickled plum.

My name is Airi Fujimoto and my hobby is cooking.
I cook dinner for my family almost everyday. In my lunch box(below) you can see,rice, egg roll ,tofu, kamaboko,salad,barbecued chicken,green soya beans and carrots.I think that it is nutritious enough.





My lunch box is made by my mother everyday. My mother's lunch box  maybe well balanced because, my mother doesn't use frozen food and it always has some vegetables and is colourful. But , I sometimes buy food at convenience store.  I always buy two rice balls and bread.     I eat too much carbohydrate. My breakfast contains too much carbohydrate too.  So , when I eat convenience store's food I want to eat vegetables and a side dish. If I bring a lunch box I can eat both . So ,  I like lunch box very much.

This is a photograph of the lunch.I always bring a lunch box to university. You can see rice and a hard boiled egg.The side dish in the middle, contains meat, paprika ,zucchini and nuts.From these, I can get protein and vitamins.You can get carbohydrate from the rice and protein from the egg.
I think it is sufficiently balanced meal.

Last Thursday, I ate a rice ball and purple sweet potato bread roll for lunch. I also ate a rice ball mixed with various grains which has many dietary fibers, and is very good for my health.I care about my calories, when I buy lunch at a convenience store.

Traditional Japanese Food

Soba

Soba is a Japanese dish containing buckwheat flour which contains a lot of vitamin B1.It has been eaten since the Nara era but now, is also sold as cup noodles.Soba can be  eaten with tempura, leek, laver(seaweed) or yam as a topping.
In our survey about soba many people eat soba on New Year's Eve in Japan however few students who had cooked soba. (Akane Yamada and Minori Nagasue )

Kinpiragobo


Kinpiragobo (braised burdock root) is a Japanese dish. Kinpura means to saute and simmer. Kinpura gobo is sauteed  burdock boiled with soy sauce and sugar and other ingredients. It is a good source of dietary fiber.
In our survey about kinpiragobo we found who knows the recipe,although there are only a few who know there are a variety of recipes.(Hiroko Kato, Yuka Kitagawa and Sunryon Ri)

Fruit and Vegetables in Japanese Supermarkets


Mangosteens, native to Southeast Asia, are called the queen of fruits for their elegant taste and soft flesh which is sweet and strong. Mangosteens are about 4~8cm .Mangosteen is delicious to eat as it is, but can be used in mousse tart or sorbet.
They contain VitaminB1 and VitaminB2,and potassium.
 
 




Papayas are a yellow fruit with black seeds. They have have an acid taste and can be used in salads or mix juice.
It's seeds are often used as a dressing.  (Ayaka Sano)




 



The Miracle Fruit( or Miracle Berry) is a red berry which comes from West Africa. They are the size of  coffee beans.It is not sweet but it makes other sour food to taste sweet . This effect lasts from thirty minutes to two hours . This fruit is seldom sold in general supermarket in Nagoya but some supermarket in Tokyo sell them however freeze-dried  miracle fruit can be bought at several places. You can also grow it by yourself .(Ayumi Kondo)



 Pomegranates are a fruit with split red skin with a sweet and sour taste. The pomegranate can be used in jelly, juice, jam and liquor.(Sunryong Ri)
 
 

Arrowhead (Kuwai)is similar to taro and native to China. It is cultivated only in Japan and China and can be used in boiled dishes or stir-fries.(Mako )
 
 


Kushinsai (Water Spinach)is cultivated in warm regions of Southeast Asia , Southern  China, and Okinawa. It is rich in carotene, vitamin C, iron, potassium and minerals, in fact it contains twice as much iron as spinach.It is especially delicious with fried pork and garlic, and seafood , you can also eat it with soups and salads.(Yurina)

 
Red Onion 
 Red onion`s skin are redish purple. They are watery and not very pungent. Therefore, it is the best in a salad.They are high in flavonoids.(Yuka Kitagawa)

Why is breakfast the best meal of the day ?



There are many merits in eating breakfast. Firstly, our body temperatures
go up when we eat breakfast. The brain becomes active, and productivity rises.
Moreover digestion is stimulated and eating breakfast leads to a healthy diet.
If we skip breakfast  our bodies may get into a state where it will be impossible
 to concentrate due to tiredness or irritation, and will interfere with work.



My breakfast
My usual breakfast is boiled rice, miso soup, a main dish, and yogurt. I usually
 eat at 7:00am but on holidays it  may be past 8:00 a.m but i always eat breakfast. 
Sometimes I have toast with honey which is delicious.I would like to eat it with
a salad, a sausage, and scrambled eggs.

Food education can teach to children about the importance of nutrition. However, these days, children’s eating habits are causing many problems. For example, being overweight,skipping breakfast  or being underweight.Overeating, especially sweets or other high calorie food is causing people to be overweight whilst excessive diets can cause people to be underweight. Over sleeping is another problem which leaves little time to prepare breakfast.
We should install nutrition teachers.If nutrition teachers teach well, the problems will gradually decrease.Moreover, cooperation between schools and parents are  important. I want everybody to know about nutrition.

I think that  people understand the joy of eating  meals together.
Recently,"Eating alone" has  become a problem."Eating alone" is
 eating a meal alone which should be eaten with your family. Mental
 stress piles up, and communicative competence declines .
I think that meals are important for communication with your family
and friends.

I had wanted to go to AlohaTable. The restaurant looks like it's from a southern european country,so I was interested. When my friends and I entered the restaurant, we  were shown to the second floor. We were surprised and happy! It was very relaxing and the food  was very delicious.
